Steampunk Phantom Extractor by pinochioO-5 Steampunk Phantom Extractor by pinochioO-5
The Phantom Extractor was an early predecessor to the Ghost buster devices of today. It was designed to emit a low frequency spectral light which would allow the operator to see any apparitions in the room. Once spotted, the device could be programed to lure the spirit into it's housing. It used an invisible light which emulated the light we see when we die. Drawn to the light the aparition would be magnetically drawn into the machine. Because of the natural adhesive properties of the rare green gold coating, the spirit would be trapped inside. It could then be removed from the house and stored in a plasma ball. The plasma balls could then be used to power our weapons and other utilities. All that trapped energy would last for decades or even longer.

A very special thanks to ~Promus-Kaa for catching the error in the name. Thanks buddy, for pointing that out. I liked the sound of the word extrapolator, but it doesn't properly describe the item. Extractor is a much better word.

Very cool! I love the design; PROPER steampunk, without just slapping gears on something!

Although I do want to point out that you might want to call it the "Phantom EXTRACTOR," because "extrapolate" means something different than what I think you think it does. ;)

I'm happy I could help! This is a really cool piece and I like it a lot, so I'm proud that I could have contributed to it, even in a small way. :D

That's what teamwork is all about, and what an art community should do. Think together. You know, mind meld, as Spock would call it.

I whole-heartedly agree! Collaborating often yields better results than working on something by yourself!

Thanks for the link. I see what you mean. It's a pretty neat weapon. What I made started from a kids toy star projector. I had to take it completely apart to paint it and then reassemble it. The later was tricky, since the parts hold each other together. It's still a WIP, so there will be a few chances (very slight ones).

I've decided to expound on the process involved in capturing a phantom and how the plasma ball works once it captures and contains an unwanted aparition.
Someone asked if the spirit gets released or if it dies in the plasma ball containment.
The entities are already dead, so what happens is they give up trying to escape in the plasma ball, and their energy subsides. Allow me to explain the energy that's produced by the plasma ball.
You'll notice when you touch a plasma ball that the energy inside is averted to the spot where your finger touches it. The phantom inside is trying to escape and inhabit your body at that spot on the sphere. It is unable to leave it's confinement and this angers the entity. Strong energy is produced from the reaction and, viola!, you have kenetic energy to supply your weapons.
Once the phantom grows tired of trying to escape, and realizes it's hopeless, the plasma ball becomes dormant. The plasma ball can, at this point be compressed into a crystal. Many phantom hunters (as they were called) chose to wear these crystals as trophies and adornments. Care must be taken not to drop or fracture the crystal with the spirit's essence trapped inside. If the crystal is damaged the spirit will be released and seek it's original place of haunt.

Looks great! Still reminds me of the apple of eden from assassins creed. Here is a link to a picture of it.

Thanks, my friend. I tried the link, but it seemed broken. I'll try again, because I'm curious as to how it looks.

I tested the link and it worked for me. Hmmmm. Anyway, I love this device. Very cool looking.Sounds like this device actually functions better than the later phantom traps of the ghostbusters fame. Could it be that some of the technology has been lost?

I'll look it up and try again. I did see a piece in devianart that someone did of the apple of eden. It was a round sphere with lines on it, so I will go to youtube and see if they show it in action.

After the many decades... does this release the spectral or do they "die"??

This so far sounds much better than modernized Ghost Capturing devices.

And probably revenge XD
Sounds extremely useful for virtually any situation.

*Shivers* The idea of being trapped for all existence is kinda scary ^^'
